Reading Hardware designed this delightful transom latch around 1885 as part of their extensive "Windsor" collection. Wonderfully decorative and beautifully made, it's the finishing touch to your vintage Victorian windows. Lost wax cast from solid brass with an antique finish.
This spring-loaded latch is typically installed at the top of the window sash and operated with a pull chain or pole-mounted transom hook (use transom chains to keep the sash from falling open). The surface mounted keeper requires a flat area on the window frame at least 3/4" in height. If the moulding surrounding the window intrudes in this area, it may need to be notched to accommodate the keeper.
Latch Base: 2 7/8" W x 1 7/8" H. Keeper: 2 7/8" W x 11/16" H.
Transom Window: Small window near the ceiling often above a door or other window that is typically hinged at the bottom and opens in. Learn about hardware >
